AI face recognition photo sharing for weddings and events

Updated · By Chethan Vasthaw Tippani, Founder, VowPix · 5 min read

The short answer

AI face recognition photo sharing lets every guest find their own event photos with one selfie instead of scrolling through thousands of pictures. On VowPix the photographer uploads once, guests scan a QR code or open a link, take a selfie, and see only the photos they appear in, ready to download in full resolution. It works in any phone browser with no app or account.

What is AI face recognition photo sharing?

AI face recognition photo sharing is a way of delivering event photos where software recognises the faces in every picture, so each guest can search the whole event with a selfie and get only the photos they are in. Instead of one big folder that everyone scrolls through, each person gets a personal, filtered view of the gallery.

For an Indian wedding with a haldi, mehendi, sangeet, the pheras and a reception, the photo count easily runs into several thousand. A cousin who wants the twenty pictures she is in should not have to open five thousand. With face recognition she opens the gallery, takes one selfie, and her twenty photos appear.

How it works on VowPix

  1. The photographer uploads the event. Drag whole folders from the memory card into the upload zone, or let a Dropbox folder sync automatically. Every face in every photo is indexed automatically as the photos arrive.
  2. Guests open the gallery. They scan the QR code printed at the venue, or tap the link the studio sends on WhatsApp. The gallery opens in the phone browser. There is nothing to install and no account to create.
  3. They enter the PIN and take a selfie. Each event has a 4-digit guest PIN. The link can include the PIN so guests skip typing it. A short, guided face scan follows.
  4. They see only their photos. Matching usually takes a second or two. The My photos tab fills with every picture the guest appears in, with a count, and they can download one photo or all of them.
  5. They can search again later. If the photographer adds more photos, a guest taps Scan again and the new matches show up.

The step-by-step help guide shows exactly what a guest sees, screen by screen.

Why photographers use it

Guests stop asking for "my photos"

The most common message a wedding photographer gets after the event is some version of "please send my pics". With face search, the answer is the same link for everyone, and each person finds their own photos without the studio sorting anything by hand.

Full-resolution delivery, not WhatsApp copies

VowPix stores and serves the exact file you uploaded. Guests can download the original, full-resolution photo, which is the version that prints well. If you also allow compressed downloads, guests on mobile data get a smaller copy that opens fast and shares well on WhatsApp. You choose which download options each event offers.

The gallery shows your studio logo, the event name and cover photo, and your Call, WhatsApp, Instagram and YouTube buttons on every screen. Each event lives on its own link, such as ananya-rohan.vowpix.in. Guests who love the photos know exactly who shot them and how to book you.

Leads from every guest who checks in

An optional check-in form asks guests for their name, mobile number and email before they search. Every submission lands in the event's Guests tab and can be exported as a CSV, which turns a single wedding into a list of people who have already seen your work.

Privacy controls that matter for weddings

Families care about who can see which photos. VowPix gives the photographer a few clear switches per event:

ControlWhat it does
Guest PIN and full-access PINGuests use the guest PIN and see their own photos. The couple and family use the full-access PIN and see everything, without a selfie.
Let guests browse all photosOn: guests see an All photos tab and can also filter by selfie. Off: everything stays blurred until a guest's selfie matches, and they see only the photos they are in.
Allow choosing a selfie from the phoneOff forces a live selfie, which stops someone searching with another person's photo.
DownloadsAllow original downloads, compressed downloads, both, or neither.
Revoke and regenerate PINsIf a link travels too far, issue a new PIN and the old one stops working.

A guest's face data is used only to find their photos inside that one event's gallery. It is never shared with other events or used to train AI models, selfies are not kept, and anyone can ask for deletion by email. The full details are in the biometric consent policy.

What it costs

Frequently asked questions

Do guests need to download an app?

No. The gallery opens in any phone browser from a QR code or link. Guests do not create an account.

How accurate is face matching?

It finds a guest's photos when their face is visible and reasonably sharp. Photos taken from behind, from very far away, or with the face mostly covered may not match. A clear, front-facing selfie in good light gives the best results, and guests can always search again.

Can a guest see other people's photos?

Only if the photographer allows browsing. With browsing turned off, guests see blurred tiles until their selfie matches and then only the photos they appear in.

What happens to the selfie?

It is used to search that event's gallery and is not kept. The face data used for matching stays inside that event and is never used to train AI models. Guests or the studio can request deletion at support@vowpix.in.

Does it work for events other than weddings?

Yes. Photographers use the same gallery for pre-wedding shoots, birthdays, corporate events, school and college functions, and sports events. The gallery theme changes with the event type.
