## Z with Network menu

*Z9, Z8, Zf, Z6III, Z5II, Z50II*

**1. Turn on Airplane mode**

Press MENU, open the Network menu and set Airplane mode to ON so SnapBridge Bluetooth and Wi-Fi stay off.

**2. Set USB to MTP/PTP**

![Set USB to MTP/PTP](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-z-network-menu-2.png)

In the Network menu set USB to MTP/PTP (Z8: USB data connection). Never iPhone, USB-LAN or USB streaming.

**3. Keep the monitor on**

![Keep the monitor on](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-z-network-menu-3.png)

In the Setup menu set USB connection priority to Shooting so the monitor stays on. Skip if the item is missing.

**4. Turn off USB power delivery**

![Turn off USB power delivery](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-z-network-menu-4.png)

In the Setup menu set USB power delivery to OFF so the camera runs on its own battery, not the phone's.

**5. Plug the camera into the phone**

![Plug the camera into the phone](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/phone-cable.png)

Insert a card, switch the camera off, plug a USB-C data cable straight into the phone (Z8: data port), then switch on.

**6. Choose VowPix and tap OK**

![Choose VowPix and tap OK](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/phone-allow-nikon-camera.png)

If Android asks which app should open the camera, pick VowPix and tick Always (never Files or Gallery). Then tap OK to allow USB access.

> **Good to know:** Z8 has two USB-C ports: use the USB data connector. Nikon says a computer will not detect the camera on the USB Power Delivery connector. Any USB setting other than MTP/PTP (iPhone, USB-LAN, USB streaming (UVC/UAC)) hides the camera from VowPix; set MTP/PTP and replug. At the default USB connection priority (Upload) the monitor stays blank while connected until you half-press the shutter.

## Z with wireless in Setup menu

*Z5, Z6II, Z7II, Z30, Zfc*

**1. Turn on Airplane mode**

![Turn on Airplane mode](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-z-setup-menu-1.png)

Press MENU, open the Setup menu and set Airplane mode to Enable so SnapBridge Bluetooth and Wi-Fi stay off.

**2. Set USB to MTP/PTP**

![Set USB to MTP/PTP](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-z-setup-menu-2.png)

In the Setup menu set USB to MTP/PTP, never iPhone. No USB item means older firmware: it is already MTP/PTP.

**3. Turn off USB power delivery**

![Turn off USB power delivery](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-z-setup-menu-3.png)

In the Setup menu set USB power delivery to OFF so the camera runs on its own battery, not the phone's.

**4. Plug the camera into the phone**

![Plug the camera into the phone](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/phone-cable.png)

Insert a card, switch the camera off, plug a USB-C data cable straight into the phone, then switch on.

**5. Choose VowPix and tap OK**

![Choose VowPix and tap OK](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/phone-allow-nikon-camera.png)

If Android asks which app should open the camera, pick VowPix and tick Always (never Files or Gallery). Then tap OK to allow USB access.

> **Good to know:** The USB item arrived by firmware: Z5 1.40, Z6II/Z7II 1.50, Z30 1.10, Zfc 1.40. Without it the camera is always MTP/PTP. iPhone mode works only with NX MobileAir on iPhones and also disables USB power and the ML-L7 remote; VowPix will not see the camera. Leave the standby timer at default. Only if the camera drops off whenever its screen sleeps, lengthen c3 Power off delay > Standby timer.

## First Z bodies

If Android asks which app should open the camera, pick VowPix and tick Always (never Files or Gallery). Then tap OK to allow USB access.

> **Good to know:** These bodies have no USB mode item and no USB power delivery item; they always connect as MTP/PTP. Z50 has a Micro-B port (Nikon cable UC-E21): use a USB-C to Micro-B data cable. Z6 and Z7 use USB-C. Leave the standby timer at default. Only if the camera drops off whenever its screen sleeps, lengthen c3 Power off delay > Standby timer.

## D780

*D780*

**1. Turn on Airplane mode**

![Turn on Airplane mode](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-d780-1.png)

**3. Plug the camera into the phone**

![Plug the camera into the phone](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/phone-cable.png)

Insert a card, switch the camera off, plug a USB-C data cable straight into the phone, then switch on.

**4. Choose VowPix and tap OK**

If Android asks which app should open the camera, pick VowPix and tick Always (never Files or Gallery). Then tap OK to allow USB access.

> **Good to know:** The USB item exists only with C firmware 1.10 or later; older firmware is always MTP/PTP. iPhone mode connects only to iPhones running NX MobileAir; VowPix will not see the camera. Airplane mode does not switch off a WT-7 transmitter; detach it.

## D850, D7500, D5600, D3500

*D850, D7500, D5600, D3500*

Insert a card, switch the camera off, plug a USB-C to Micro-B data cable straight into the phone, then switch on.

**3. Choose VowPix and tap OK**

If Android asks which app should open the camera, pick VowPix and tick Always (never Files or Gallery). Then tap OK to allow USB access.

> **Good to know:** No USB mode to choose: these DSLRs always connect as MTP/PTP. The D3500 has Bluetooth only, so its menu shows no Wi-Fi row. D850 has a USB 3.0 Micro-B socket; an ordinary Micro-B plug also fits its left half. Airplane mode does not switch off a WT-7 transmitter on the D850; detach it.

## D750

*D750*

**1. Turn off Wi-Fi**

![Turn off Wi-Fi](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/nikon-nikon-d750-1.png)

Insert a card, switch the camera off, plug the data cable straight into the phone, then switch on.

**3. Choose VowPix and tap OK**

![Choose VowPix and tap OK](https://pub-53d2f40332f849028f57401c40448a94.r2.dev/docs/camera-guides/v1/phone-allow-nikon-camera.png)

If Android asks which app should open the camera, pick VowPix and tick Always (never Files or Gallery). Then tap OK to allow USB access.

> **Good to know:** No USB mode and no Bluetooth: once Wi-Fi is disabled the camera connects as MTP/PTP. The D750 socket takes Nikon's 8-pin plug (UC-E17 or UC-E6 cable), not standard Mini-B, Micro-B or USB-C; use the UC-E17 with a USB-C OTG adapter.
